About Us

The Public Health Gambling Project lead by Dr. David Korn and Dr. Harvey Skinner is based in the Department of Public Health Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. This new initiative has been formed to address gambling as a public health matter, intended to focus on research, community development, teaching and public policy considerations.

In addition to the Core Values of the Department of Public Health Sciences, the Public Health Gambling Project’s work has several goals:

  • To generate peer-review funded research using public health methodologies to better understand the costs and benefits of gambling to a range of communities and risk populations.
  • To offer public and professional education.
  • To create community partnerships and coalitions that seek to maximize the benefits of gambling, while minimizing its harms.
  • To contribute to public policy in the gambling field.
